Towards the end of last year, we said a heartfelt goodbye to two of our much-loved support staff.
Brynn, who joined us as a veterinary nurse in early 2025, has moved out of Christchurch to begin her next chapter. Alongside her, we farewelled Naomi, our wonderful receptionist of three years, who has been offered an incredible new work opportunity much closer to home.
Both Brynn and Naomi were such valued members of our team, and we already miss them. We wish them all the very best in what comes next.
Welcoming New Faces to the Nursing Team
We’re also excited to welcome some new faces to our nursing team.
Fiona Sunter joined us as a nursing student during 2025, and we loved having her with us so much that we were thrilled to offer her a part-time veterinary nurse position.
Here’s what Fiona has to say:
“I completed my Diploma in Veterinary Nursing in November 2025. I’ve always had a strong love for animals and knew from a young age that I wanted to work with them. I’m so excited to be starting my journey as a vet nurse with such a supportive team. At my family home, I have a little chihuahua and a cat who keep me busy. Outside of work, I enjoy reading, spending time with friends, and going for walks with my family’s and friends’ dogs.”
We’re so pleased to have Fiona continuing her journey with us.
We’re also delighted to have Alya Zamri joining us part-time from February. Alya will may already be a familiar face, having worked with us regularly as a locum throughout 2025.
Alya is a registered veterinary nurse who has been working in general practice since 2020. Her career journey has included roles as a student representative, completing a competitive three-month internship after graduating. She is also certified in low-stress handling and as a clinical coach.
We’re also incredibly proud to share that Alya is the 2025 recipient of the Angela Payne Award. This award, named after the first NZVNA President, recognises the best article published in the New Zealand Veterinary Nursing Journal in the preceding year, as judged by the NZVNA executive committee — a wonderful achievement and well-deserved recognition of her hard work.
We’re excited for the year ahead and grateful to have such a dedicated, compassionate team caring for your pets.
